Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) are often discussed in labs big and small. However, it is rare to find labs that utilize these systems effectively. They are often too difficult to integrate and maintain without vast expense, and if the business needs change they are too cumbersome to adapt and become obsolete. Even the largest organizations that you would assume would have the best IT infrastructure often resort to the Excel worksheet to manage their results.
